1935
January 8th – Elvis Aaron Presley is born in a two room, shotgun shack in
Tupelo, Mississippi to Gladys Love Presley and Vernon Elvis Presley. His
twin brother Jesse Garon is stillborn.

1945
October 3rd - Aged 10, Elvis makes his first  public performance in a
singing contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show. He sings
Old Shep.

1948
November 6th – the Presley family give up the struggle of living in Tupelo
and move to Memphis, Tennessee in the hope of a better life.

1953
June 3rd - Elvis graduates from Humes High School – the first member of
his immediate family to do so. Later in the summer he makes a two-sided
acetate at Sun Studios, telling Marion Keisker that it is a present for his
mother. He sings My Happiness and That’s When Your Heartaches Begin.
The proprietor, Sam Phillips is not present.

1954
January – Elvis pays to record a second acetate at Sun Studios engaging
the interest of both Sam Phillips and Marion Keisker. He sings I’ll Never
Stand In Your Way and It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You.

July 5th – Elvis’ first recording session for Sam Phillips with Scotty Moore
and Bill Black……That’s All Right is recorded.

1955
August 15th – Colonel Tom Parker replaces Bob Neal as Elvis’ Manager. In
November Elvis’ contract is sold to RCA for a record sum.

1956
January 27th – Heartbreak Hotel is released – it will become Elvis’ first
million seller.

January 28th – Elvis, Scotty and Bill make their National TV debut on the
Dorsey Brothers Show.

April 1st – Elvis screen tests for Paramount in Hollywood….the start of his
movie career. He plays a strin
gless prop guitar and sings along to Blue
Suede Shoes.

November 16th – Premier of Elvis’ first film Love me Tender. A giant cut
out of Elvis is unveiled on the front of the Movie Theatre in New York.

1957
January 6th - After his gyrations on the Milton Berle show Elvis has been
called the “Pelvis” so he is now filmed “from the waist up” on his last
appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

March 25th - Elvis purchases Graceland Mansion in Memphis for the sum
of $102,000

1958
March 24th – Elvis joins the army and is sent to Fort Hood in Texas for
basic training. This will be the start of a 2 year stint.

August 14th – Elvis’ mum Gladys dies in hospital in Memphis after a short
illness.

October 1st – Elvis arrives in Germany for an eighteen month tour of duty.

1959
September 13th – Elvis is introduced to Priscilla Beaulieu at a private
party.

1960  
March 5th – Elvis is discharged from the army and resumes his career,
recording the album Elvis Is Back and returning to Hollywood to continue
making movies.

1961     
March 25th – Elvis appears in concert in Honolulu... a charity event for the
USS Arizona Memorial Appeal.

1963
January - Priscilla moves from Germany to Memphis to live with Elvis.

1965
August 27th – The Beatles visit Elvis at his Bel Air home, the five of them
have an impromptu jam session though no one thinks to record it.

1967
March 8th – Elvis’ second gospel album is released, How Great Thou Art….
it will earn him his first Grammy Award for Best Sacred Performance.

May 1st – Elvis finally marries Priscilla at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.

1968
February 1st – Exactly nine months after the wedding Lisa Marie the
couples only daughter is born.

June  - Elvis filmed the NBC TV Special – Elvis – which later became
known as The Comeback Special. It was broadcast in December of this
year.

1969
January 13th – Elvis starts recording at the American Studios in Memphis.
The session runs into February and produces three singles which will sell
over a million copies each and two
gold albums.

June 26th – Elvis opens at the International Hotel for a month long
engagement….he is nervous but the shows are wonderful – Elvis
Is Back!

1970
August 10th – Elvis opens at the International again – a movie Elvis, That’s
The
Way It Is is filmed during the engagement.

December 19th – Elvis sets off on a very strange episode in his life,
travelling alone to Washington to meet President Richard Nixon and
obtaining a Federal Narcotics Badge for his collection.

1971
January 16th – The United States Chamber Of Commerce name Elvis as
one of the 10 Outstanding Young Men of the Year.

1972
January – Priscilla moves out of Graceland taking Lisa Marie with her.

June 9th – Elvis starts a four concert sell out engagement at Madison
Square Gardens in
New York, his audience includes John Lennon, George
Harrison, David Bowie and Bob Dylan.

1973
January 14th – Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii, which will be seen by almost 1.5
billion TV viewers via satellite, is filmed at the Honolulu International
Centre.

October 9th – Elvis and Priscilla’s divorce is finalised in Los Angeles.

1976
November – Elvis splits from long time girl friend Linda Thompson. His
new girl friend is Ginger Alden who remains with him until his death.

1977
June 26th – Elvis performs at the Market Square Arena, Indianapolis. It
will be his final show.

August 16th – Elvis dies at Graceland his beloved home in Memphis
Tennessee.
